Preparing for the Solomons Race
Posted on 11. Jul, 2009 by Molly in News
The annual Annapolis to Solomons, MD sailboat race is an overnight affair, starting at 6:45 on Friday evening. On our J/105 Mirage, we can finish as early as 4:00 AM or as late as noon, depending upon the wind. With a little more than a week to go, it’s time to place my enlyten order for our crew members:
Energy: we need to stay up all night, after a long week of work. Energy strips, with no carbs, calories or sugar, will be the healthiest way for us to stay alert and sharp. And the strip delivery method will keep us from going to the bathroom more than we have to, which is important on a boat!
Electrolytes: if the race goes long, that means it will be a hot and windless morning on Saturday. We will need electrolytes to help us combat the beating we will be getting in the Maryland July sun. And, whether or not it goes long, electrolytes will help any crew members feel better who decide to participate in post-race rum and OJs or Bloody Marys.
Appetite Suppressants: As the navigator, I can spend quite a bit of time with the GPS and the charts, which happen to be right next to the cooler and near the galley. Snack heaven is quite the temptation. Enlyten, save me!
Calorie Burners: Should I not be able to resist the snack heaven within arm’s reach, the back-up will come in handy! Enlyten, save me!
Antioxidants: After staying up all night, my whole system will feel a bit off. Antioxidants need to be maintained.
Melatonin: Getting back on schedule post-race should be a breeze (pardon the pun) thanks to enlyten!
May the most-enlytened boat win!
